Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp is reportedly working on a feature that could allow people to join WhatsApp voice and video calls without having a WhatsApp account.

According to reports, the upcoming feature is called Guest Calls. it would allow a WhatsApp user to create a call link and share it with someone who does not have a WhatsApp account. The guest could then open the link in a web browser without downloading WhatsApp or creating an account.

how does it work?

The WhatsApp user would create a link from the calls section and send it to another person. The person receiving the link could open it through the browser to join the call. For security, the host would reportedly have to approve the guest before they can enter the call.

What about Privacy?

WhatsApp already says its voice and video calls are end-to-end encrypted. The reported guest-calls feature is also expected to use security measures while giving the host control over who can join.

When Will It Be Available?

There is currently no confirmed public release date. Report say the feature is still under development and is not yet available for beta testing. So, users should not expect to see the option on their WhatsApp just yet.

Why Could this be useful?

If introduced, the feature could make WhatsApp calls easier for people who don`t use WhatsApp regularly. For Example, someone could receive a call invitation and join through their browser without going through the process of installing the app and creating an account.

WhatsApp has already expanded calling on WhatsApp Web, allowing users to make and receive voice and video calls directly from a browser.
